My name is Aaron Northmore, I am a third year student at the University of South Wales, studying an undergraduate degree in BA (Hons) Sports Development. This degree allows me to develop both theoretical and practical knowledges as well as improve specific skills essential for working in the industry.
Since beginning my Sports Development degree I have found a huge passion for the sports industry, in particular analysing and understanding the barriers to participation. More specifically those of target groups identified by sports councils (BME groups, women, Over 65 year olds, people living in less affluent communities and people with disabilities). This interest has had a significant influence on my career aspirations, my aim is to make sport accessible for all, removing barriers and increasing participation levels. This passion has also been determined by my previous sporting experience; sport has played a crucial part in my life and not only had it brought me success on the field but has also enhanced my personal attributes such as leadership, respect and determination.
I believe that everybody should share this positive experience of sport to not only improve their health but help them develop as people. Sports development enables me to achieve these goals through strategically planning initiatives which appeal to all increasing the likelyhood of physical activity engagement.
